We got a new rental today. When we picked up our car about a week ago for the first time, we had a few problems. First, it was a diesel. We can't fill up on base with diesel. And, we found today when we took to back, that it would cost over $80 to fill up on the economy. No thanks. Second problem. The 'low oil' light came on about two days into our adventure. When Spencer called to tell them the kid at the desk told him to just get some oil and put it in there. Once again, no thanks. The last thing we wanted was to ruin a car because the oil goes in some weird place. So finally, ten days later, we found a non-diesel, automatic with air conditioning. Mind you we had to down-size a tad . . .I feel like we're driving a Smart car. The thing is itty-bitty. Gav barely fits in the back seat and Spencer's head just about touches the ceiling. It's actually kinda funny to see us all crammed in there. Ever seen "Just Married"? We feel like Ashton Kutcher . . .
I love English drivers. They are so dang polite. If you're waiting to turn, it's not uncommon for someone to stop traffic to let you in. And the streets are so tiny here that sharing the road is sometimes difficult. You never have to worry, however, about someone not waving when you're polite. Spencer and I have noticed the different types of waves over the past few days. Here's the list:
The Five Finger: This is done by older people. As their hands are at 10 and 2, they use one to let you know they're thankful.
The Point: This is usually done by younger, single guys. They most likely have a flashy sporty type car and are wearing wickedly cool sunglasses.
The Thumbs Up: This is mostly done by taxi drivers who are grateful but don't really want to show it. They give the thumbs up sign to acknowledge you, but not too much.
The Index Finger: This one is used by older men that don't have the energy to give the whole Five Finder wave.
Flashing Lights: This is done by people too lazy to wave.

Geeze. I'll bet you just miss seeing the middle finger once in a while.
Funny little car. I have called those MIGRAINS because that's what the name looks like to me. I do the head nod acknowledgement a lot. Takes even less energy than the index finger...old person thing...xo
