I'm having trouble concentrating. I'm feeling a tad emotional. Why do bad things happen to such good people?

For those of you that haven't heard about this remarkable family, The Nielsons, let me just tell you. Get ready for a life change. I've spent ALL DAY reading Stephanie's archives. And I love her. What a remarkable mother . . .wife . . .missionary . . .sister . . .person. She has touched my life in ways I can't describe. Inspired me to be a better mother . . .wife . . .missionary . . .sister . . .person.

On August 16th she and her fabulous husband were in a private plane crash. The pilot did not make it. Christian has burns on 35% of his body. Stephanie on 80%. They are in critical condition (three weeks later) and are expected to remain in the hospital for MONTHS. They have four adorable children who are now living with aunts and uncles in a different state. The children most likely will not be able to see their parents until Christmas, and even then it's a wonder if they will even recognize them. Their baby is my baby's age. Tears stream down my face as I think about that sweet baby without his mama.

This story has changed me as a person. It has helped me to appreciate my life and my blessings EVERY.SINGLE.MOMENT.

So . . .thanks to Nie Nie, I have made a list of top 6 things that make me happy today.

1. Walking outside with the brisk air hitting me between the eyes and realizing that fall is here.

2. Serving peanut butter crackers and apples for lunch and having sweet Reese look at me as if I had served him fillet mignon.

3. The new park we found today. Gavin ran with his friends. Reese loved the swings and I got to chat with my best friends.

4. Flowers for no reason. Okay, okay. Maybe they're for my fat birthday tomorrow. But I often get them for no reason at all . . . (*Happy Birthday to you, Miss Karen*)

5. Meeting Tom at the pool last Monday only to find out he's a Masters swim coach. We're meeting (with Gina and Marcus) to work on stroke technique. At 5:20 AM. I can't wait.

6. Realizing that in two days I will be in a "honeymoon" type bliss when Spence and I (ONLY) will be va-caying in sunny Nevada. I can't wait to cuddle whenever we want. For four days straight.

I read about their story too, and it brought tears streaming down my face. I could not imagine what those children must be going through and all of their family and friends. Happy Birthday Jordan, I hope you have a great one!

Wow. That really is a heartbreaking story. It really makes your heart break for all involved. But there is hope in everything, and this is a chance for others to show their love and give great service. I like your take on it, to be grateful for what we have. You rock! Happy Birthday!
