What a trip we had this weekend!!! We left on Friday morning and headed to Swindon--a pleasant little city in between Stonehenge and Bath. Spencer had found a great deal at a Marriott and we decided to make a trip out of it. Little did we realize that it is a UK Bank Holiday on Monday, so this was a long weekend. We had traffic problems from the very beginning. Spence glanced at his miles driven and realized that we had been gone for three hours. 140 miles. Yeah, that's an average of like 45 miles an hour. We really thought it would be an easy trip since most of it was Motorway (freeway). Gees. Were we ever wrong.
So not only did it take us forever to get there, but we had a few problems along the way. How do you get a two year old's tummy to stop hurting when stuck in traffic? About an hour into the trip we were forced to pull off and let Gavin walk out his tummy troubles. I've never felt so helpless. Poor kid. We were in this office parking lot and I picked him up to give him a hug and felt a warm sensation on my shirt. Yep. He had wet through. And all over me. Once we got changed and helped him to be happy, we jumped back in the car. As we were pulling back onto the freeway, I poured Gav a glass of apple juice in his sippy cup just as Spence hit a bump. Apple juice all in my lap. Nice. Even though it seemed that this trip was doomed, I was determined not to get down. We just laughed and continued on (in the traffic).
We finally got to our hotel and were feeling too tired to attempt anything so we found a McDonald's, had dinner and Gav and I headed to the pool. We've got quite the swimmer I might add. Ask him, the next time you see him, to show you how he holds his breath. Classic. He loves jumping in. He's learning how to lay on his stomach (assisted of course) and kick his legs while moving his arms. He'll be Olympic material by the time he's 15. I can hardly wait!!!
The next morning we got up only to find out that Spencer had been sick the whole night before. I'm thinking McDonalds wasn't too nice to him. We were both disappointed for a number of reasons. First being that we had ordered breakfast to be delivered to our room and he had no desire to enjoy it! Plus, this was our day to enjoy Stonehenge and Spence had been looking forward to that since we moved here. We had a lazy morning and he seemed to be feeling well enough to attempt it. I'm sure glad he did. It was amazing. One of the best sights in all the UK in our opinion. Such mystery. Amazing.
Poor Spencer couldn't take much more and so we headed back to the hotel so he could regroup. Gav and I headed back down to the pool, did some swimming and came back and went to bed. The next morning was much better. We all felt good, enjoyed breakfast and headed to Bath, which I had heard was one of the most amazing cities in England. And it really was! We headed to Bath Abbey which was just finishing up with their Sunday service, and didn't open to the public for another 45 minutes. So we hopped on a tour bus (yes, it was a double decker open top and yes, it was red). What a fun way to see the city. We jumped off at The Royal crescent which is a bunch of townhomes/apartments that were built in a circle. Really cool.
While on the bus, our tour guide told us that you can pay 50 pence to get some of the Bath water to drink. It contains lots of minerals and is to be believed that it will heal any sickness that you are suffering from. I thought, "Hey, I'd try it for 50 pence". Then I saw the Bath water. See (green) picture above. I don't think so.
Once the tour was over, we headed back to the Abbey and walked around inside. What a beautiful building! We took some great pictures and even saw a crazy lady talking to a statue of Jesus. We tried to get a picture, but couldn't wing it. Everyone was staring anyway, I couldn't stand there and snap a picture. We headed to get some lunch and then drove home. It only took a little over three hours to get back. We even had time to do a little laundry before bed!
So overall, even with all the hiccups, this was one of the best trips yet!
Gees, this is like the longest blog I've ever seen. Thanks for reading.

Sounds like so much fun! That bath water made me sick though.
"Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times."
Starr, you are nutz.
that looks like a fun trip minus the traffic and apple juice spill and the tummy ache.
they have a thick candy shell.
Did you make up that apple juice story just to excuse the pee stains on your shirt in the pictures? I really hope they are just apple juice stains...
Sounds like you guys are having fun there!
