You know.
I take my job as a mother pretty seriously.
It's my job to teach my kids how to work.
It's my job to teach my kids how to eat healthy.
It's my job to teach my kids self control.
And I thought I was doing a pretty bang up job.
Until about a month ago.
Imagine the horror when I walked downstairs only to find my kid gnawing on a piece of cheese.
Wait.
Scratch that.
He was gnawing on the WHOLE block of cheese.
And his brother had a whole box of cereal and was eating it by the handful.
Well guess what, my friends.
NO MORE.
No more searching for the pepperoni for pizza only to find the empty bag.
No more eating a whole box (meaning ten) pop tarts in two days.
No more "Moooooooooom! I'm huuuuuuungry!"
Enter: The Treat Baskets.
Oh yes, you heard me right.
I sacrificed one afternoon of chopping and bagging for a month of total bliss.
And now when Gavin comes home from school and says,
"I think I'm going to die if I don't have something to eat right now!"
I say,
"Go pick one thing out of each bucket, my darling."
(Okay maybe not quite like that, but you get it.)
You know, because we have two.

You know, because we have two.
One for the fridge (cheese, grapes, blueberries, ham, carrots, yogurt)
and
One for the pantry (animal crackers, wheat thins, pretzels, applesauce).
And what do you know?
Happy boy because he gets to pick what he wants.
Happy mom because I know his grimy hands won't be in all of my food.
Seriously.
WIN/WIN.
